Upon being asked the question of pending cases in the Indian court, Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju, in the Supreme Court Association 1-Day Event, replied with genuine exasperation. He admitted that the judges of India are more overworked than any other judiciary in the world, taking in 40-50 cases each day. With an amalgamation of India’s excessive population and democracy, India is the only country of its scale, needing special treatment of patience and trust, said the minister. CJI N K Ramana also contributed to this by emphasizing covid lockdown pulling the judiciary in a one-year backlog.
