BMC about to rehire clean-up marshals after 6-month hiccup

After 6-month break, clean-up marshals to be back on Mumbai’s streets from September

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced to employ clean-up marshals for the city’s 24 wards, by assigning 1 ward to each company, comprising of 30 marshals. The marshals, who had also enforced mandatory mask wearing in the city previously, are entitled to fine ₹12,000 on littering, spitting and dumping debris. BMC however, considering recurring complaints of misbehavior in the past, has installed strict actions of fining the companies ₹25,000, ₹1 lakh or ₹ 2 lakh, upon three authentic complaints. Any further would result in termination of the 1-year contract and a filed police complaint.
