‘Badru Da’ aka Samar Banerjee, the iconic football captain dies

Former Indian football team captain and Mohan Bagan Ratna winner of 2009, Samar Banerjee (92) passed away in Kolkata on Saturday at 2:10 am. On July 27th, the infamous ‘Badru Da’ was admitted at the MR Bangur Hospital post being tested positive for Covid-19; already suffering from Alzheimer, Azotemia and high-blood pressure. He died after being shifted to state-run SSKM Hospital, under supervision of state sports minister Arup Biswas. Banerjee brought fourth position football team home, best performance till date; when it lost to Brazil by 0-3 at the 1956 Olympics.
