Japanese consul Motoki Tatsunori was detained by the Russian FSB agency on Monday. The security agency claims that the consul was witnessed receiving information pertaining to Western sanctions and also shared highly confidential information of Russian cooperation with an anonymous Asia-Pacific country. Tokyo isn’t happy about the “intimidating manner” Tatsunori was held, with Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno alleging that the former was innocent, meanwhile nudging for an action from Tokyo if not received Moscow’s formal apology.
