Due to the Russia-Ukraine war, the small ex-soviet country Moldova is falling 70% short of gas from Russian suppliers, and is currently struggling to produce electricity for its 2.5 million population. Russian gas supplier Gasprom has been unsuccessful in providing the needed 11.5 million cubic metres of gas per day to the country, only coming in at 5.7 million. The energy company Energocom as a consequence, didn’t contract with an electricity-producing thermal plant. Even though the nation had reserved 127 mcm gas in Ukraine for winter, the latter has stopped exports.
