BSP national president Mayawati is set to hold a state-level meeting to discuss the fast-changing political scenario in the country. This meeting will be followed by brainstorming sessions with party units to formulate a strategy for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in 2024. Mayawati recently announced that her party will contest assembly elections in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Telangana. She also stated that she will personally campaign for the party in these states. The purpose of Wednesday’s meeting is to emphasize Mayawati’s active involvement in the party’s preparations for the Lok Sabha elections. The party aims to address the shortcomings identified after the poor performance in the recent UP ULB polls. One of the major reasons for this poor show was the absence of senior leaders from campaigning and the lack of influential figures who could attract voters to the party. In an attempt to improve their chances, the party has decided to form a panel of leaders to select ‘winnable’ candidates for the general elections. This early selection will give the candidates enough time to connect with the voters. The finalization of this panel may take place during Wednesday’s meeting. It is worth mentioning that in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BSP contested in an alliance with SP and RLD and won 10 seats out of the 15 seats won by the alliance. While Mayawati has stated that her party will contest alone in the upcoming elections, some leaders in her party believe that it is too early to make a final decision on this matter. The national president may provide more clarity on the alliance during the meeting.
