Leader of the Opposition V.D. Satheesan has written to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan seeking the government’s immediate action and intervention to check the outbreak of infectious diseases and deaths due to them. Satheesan highlighted the increasing incidence of dengue and leptospirosis, and the panic it has caused. He mentioned that even before the monsoon season, there has been a spike in infectious diseases and deaths. The situation appears to be worse in the hill districts of the state, calling for emergency control measures. Satheesan also criticized the government’s pre-monsoon infectious diseases control measures, stating that they have been ineffective. He pointed out that waste management in the state has also contributed to the problem. Satheesan demanded that the government take urgent steps to intensify control measures, particularly focusing on household vector control. He emphasized the need for coordination between the Local Self-Government department and the Health and allied departments to reduce the incidence of infectious diseases and deaths.
