Infiltration Bid Foiled in Poonch, Soldier Injured in Gunfight

An Army soldier was injured in a gunfight between security forces and terrorists trying to infiltrate Indian territory along the Line of Control (LoC) in Krishna Ghati sector of Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Saturday. This was the third infiltration bid thwarted by alert troops manning the LoC in Poonch within a month and came a day after four terrorists were shot dead during a similar infiltration attempt along the LoC at Kala Jungle area in Machhal sector of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Friday.

The gunfight broke out in the forward area of Ranger Nallah in Gulpur sub-sector of Krishna Ghati late Friday when troops noticed a group of two-three armed terrorists trying to infiltrate into own (Indian) side. A soldier was injured in the exchange of fire while the terrorists managed to escape into the nearby dense forest.

Reinforcements were rushed to the area, and a massive cordon-and-search operation was underway to hunt down the holed-up terrorists despite heavy rain in the area. This comes after previous successful operations in which several terrorists were killed and war-like stores were recovered along the LoC.
