Tripura Government Claims Success in Anti-Drug Campaign

The Nesha Mukt Abhiyan (‘drug-free campaign’) in Tripura has achieved significant success in combating drug abuse. According to a release from the Tripura Chief Minister’s Office, the campaign has led to the detection of narcotics, raised awareness about the issue, and the arrest of drug peddlers. Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, who took office with a commitment to eradicate drug abuse, gave security forces a free hand in the fight against drugs. Since January 2022, narcotics worth ₹70 crore have been seized and 373 individuals have been arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. The efforts have made Tripura the second-highest state in the northeastern region in terms of drug seizures.
