Private Bus Catches Fire in Maharashtra, Resulting in 26 Deaths

At least 26 people, including three children, were charred to death and seven others suffered injuries after a private travels bus they were travelling in caught fire on the Samruddhi Mahamarg in Maharashtra’s Buldhana district on Saturday, July 1, 2023. The accident took place between Dusarbid and Sindkedraja at Pimpalkhuta village in the district. The driver lost control of the wheel following a tire burst and collided with an iron pole. The bus overturned and caught fire, leaving no escape route for the passengers. The survivors managed to break the glass windows to escape. The victims’ bodies were severely burnt, making identification challenging. The survivors were rushed to hospitals and are said to be stable. The Chief Minister of Maharashtra expressed condolences and announced an ex-gratia for the victims’ families. Union Home Minister Amit Shah and NCP leader Sharad Pawar also expressed their condolences.
