Sourav Ganguly: India vs Australia World Cup Clash Offers Better Quality Than India-Pakistan Clash, Says Former Captain

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has explained why he believes India’s clash against Australia in the upcoming 2023 World Cup will offer more ‘quality’ cricket than the one against arch-rivals Pakistan. Ganguly’s comments come after the schedule for the tournament was announced earlier this week, with India opening their campaign against Australia on October 8.

India will be led by Rohit Sharma in their quest to end over a ten-year ICC trophy drought at the home World Cup. The tournament will be the first time that India hosts the entire event.

Ganguly points out that India has been winning ‘one-sided’ matches against Pakistan in recent years. According to him, the clash between the two sides hasn’t generated much quality of cricket. He highlighted that Pakistan defeated India for the first time in the T20 World Cup in Dubai.

In the last encounter between India and Pakistan at the T20 World Cup 2022, the match went down to the last ball, with India clinching a thrilling four-wicket win in Melbourne. However, Ganguly stresses that India’s clashes against Australia tend to be of better quality.

India did not perform well in the 2021 T20 World Cup. Ganguly believes that the clash between India and Australia produces better quality cricket in the World Cup.

The former BCCI President expressed his views during an interview with Star Sports, as quoted by Sportskeeda.

India’s clash with Pakistan is scheduled for October 15 at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

India’s last ICC title win came in 2013 when they won the Champions Trophy under the leadership of Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Incidentally, Dhoni was also the captain when India won their last World Cup in 2011.
