Indian mobile manufacturers are facing difficulties as they try to regain market share in the domestic smartphone market. A survey conducted by ET revealed that none of the mobile retail shops in Delhi sold Indian mobile brands. The demand for smartphones is mostly for 5G phones instead of 4G phones, and customers prefer phones priced above ₹10,000. Chinese brands continue to dominate the market. Indian brands like Micromax and Lava are struggling due to financial and technological constraints. Experts believe that collaboration is needed between OEMs, the government, and network providers for the sub-₹10,000 phone segment to grow. However, the launch of 5G in India has created an opportunity for Indian brands to re-enter the market. With the network providers rolling out 5G, people are seeking phones that support the faster 5G network. Budget also plays a role in the decision between buying a 4G or a 5G phone. Despite the challenges, Indian manufacturers have the chance to regain market share as the market transitions from 4G to 5G.
