The Indian government has set an ambitious target to provide piped potable water to all rural households by 2024 through its Jal Jeevan Mission. However, the progress towards achieving this goal has been slow. As of October 2021, only 64% of rural households have access to piped water. The Ministry of Jal Shakti is spearheading the mission, but it has faced challenges due to limited resources and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The government needs to implement transparent measures and allocate sufficient resources to accelerate the progress and ensure that clean water reaches every rural household in India.
