The district administrations of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi have declared holidays for anganwadis, schools, and colleges in the respective districts on Wednesday, in view of the red alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The IMD has issued a red alert for Dakshina Kannada and Udupi on Wednesday and Thursday. The holiday declaration comes in response to heavy rains and the potential dangers faced by students in rural areas who may have to cross swollen streams to reach educational institutions. The district deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada has also announced the implementation of emergency protocols aimed at ensuring the safety of residents. These protocols include measures such as avoiding low-lying areas, rivers, and seashores, as well as restrictions for fishermen.
