The newly-expanded cabinet of the Shinde-Fadnavis-Ajit Pawar government in Maharashtra met on Tuesday and approved several decisions. The government also launched a booklet on its performance in the past year. However, the nine new NCP ministers are still waiting for portfolio allocations. Sources from Shiv Sena and NCP mentioned that there is still some last-minute jostling for key portfolios, and the final allocation may take place on Wednesday or later in the week. It is expected that Ajit Pawar will be given the important finance portfolio, which is currently held by deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis. The current cabinet has 29 ministers out of the permitted 43. Many of the Sena and BJP ministers have multiple departments, and some may have to give up key portfolios for the newly-inducted NCP ministers. However, there are no ministers of state in the government as of now. The CM Eknath Shinde and deputy CM Fadnavis will discuss and resolve the issue of portfolio allocation soon. The word of CM Shinde will be final in terms of portfolio allocation. Portfolio allocation will happen soon according to a statement by Sena minister Sambhuraje Desai. Ajit Pawar was sworn in along with eight other NCP MLAs, and it is likely that some of them will be allocated departments related to social justice, culture, food and civil supplies, cooperation, state excise, tourism, women and child development as per the sources. The final allocation will be decided by the CM and two deputy CMs. BJP, which has 105 MLAs and support from 10 independents and smaller parties, has only 10 ministers in the government. Two of these ministers had joined BJP from Congress, leaving the remaining 8 berths for BJP loyalists.
