The mystery surrounding the death of 23-year-old techie, Akanksha Bidyasar, has taken a new turn with the arrest of her former friend on murder charges. Akanksha’s body was found in her Kodihalli flat on June 5th. The accused, Gurijala Arpith, who had been on the run for over a month, admitted to killing Akanksha as she had been distancing herself from him. Arpith, a 25-year-old sales manager from Delhi, had worked in Hyderabad and had moved there after being promoted. In 2022, both Arpith and Akanksha worked for the same company and resided in Bengaluru.

The murder case was initially registered against unidentified persons, with the police recovering Akanksha’s body. The investigation revealed that she was strangled and smothered to death by the killer. Arpith’s statement to the police indicated that he had a fight with Akanksha on the evening of June 5th, which led to her murder. He had come to meet her in Bengaluru on the same day.

After killing Akanksha, Arpith headed to the City railway station and purchased a ticket to Delhi. However, he disembarked in Bhopal and traveled to different places using various modes of transport, eventually reaching Assam and Vijayawada. During his escape, he left behind his mobile phone, ID card, and other materials at Akanksha’s house. Arpith initially used cash from an ATM in Bengaluru and later sought financial assistance from his acquaintances through internet cafes.

The police conducted an extensive search for Arpith, visiting Delhi, Hyderabad, and other locations. Last week, they traced him to Vijayawada, but he had already left by the time they arrived. Ultimately, he was apprehended in Bengaluru when he returned to meet a friend for money.

The arrest of Gurijala Arpith brings some closure to the investigation into Akanksha’s murder. Police have cited a spurned relationship as the motive behind the crime. Arpith’s acquaintances and colleagues played a crucial role in his capture, providing information that assisted in tracking him down. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of reporting suspicious behavior and maintaining vigilance within personal relationships.
