Upset with Ajit’s Entry, Shinde’s MLAs Say They Will Get Half a Bread Instead of One Now

In a clear indication that the Shiv Sena MLAs led by CM Ekanth Shinde are upset at Ajit Pawar’s entry into the Shinde-Fadnavis government with eight ministers and around 40 MLAs, Sena MLA Sanjay Shirsat on Tuesday said that when they had a majority of 172 MLAs, there was no need to NCP on board but in politics some equations have to be fitted. Shirsat said that one has to give up everything, then what is the point of being in office? Sena MLA Bharat Gogawale said that instead of one bhakri (bread), everyone (Sena MLAs) will get only half a bhakri now. “In politics these things happen. What will we do by being upset? We have to accept the reality and move on. We will be upset to some extent, this is true, because one who was to get one bhakri, will get only half, and those who were to get half a bhakri, will get only a quarter,” Gogawale said. Shirsat said that another round of cabinet expansion will take place before Sunday. “Basically we didn’t need a majority. Then why did you take Ajit Pawar? Everyone has asked this question. When we have 172 MLAs, do we need to take him (Ajit Pawar) again? But in politics some equations have to be fitted, in view of the Lok Sabha and state assembly polls,” Shirsat said. “Every person has strength. Party has power but the individual leader also has power. Once that strength is consolidated, more seats will be added. Due to this cabinet expansion, our workers have many questions. So how will this cabinet work? NCP was given so many ministerial posts, then what do you get? The answers to all these questions lie with the chief minister Ekanth Shinde and the Deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis. All this has been planned, so this cabinet has been expanded. Again, the second cabinet will be extended by Sunday,” Shirsat said. “If we give up everything, then what is the point of being in power? Then why to be in power. This doesn’t happen, so they (CM and DCM) have tried to balance everything. These compromises will have to be made. The CM will have to do justice, unless justice is done, it will not work, because everyone has to be pacified,” he said. Maharashtra deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar on Tuesday said there is no leader like PM Narendra Modi. “The country is marching ahead under his (Modi’s) leadership. We have joined the government to support him,” Ajit Pawar said, after inaugurating his NCP faction’s new office in south Mumbai. Ajit Pawar indicated that the allocation of portfolios in the state ministry may not be announced immediately. NCP president Sharad Pawar on Tuesday said those who “betrayed” his ideology should not use his photograph. “Only the party of which I am the national president and Jayant Patil the state president can use my photograph,” he told reporters. In his lifetime, it was his prerogative to decide who should use his photograph, he said.
