Gunbattles continued through the day in Manipur’s restive Bishnupur pocket, resulting in the death of a police commando, Pukhrambam Ranbir. At least one suspected militant was also shot by security forces. In Moirang, the death of 17-year-old student Mayengbam Ricky, caught in the crossfire, sparked protests with hundreds demanding peace. Gunfights between gunmen and security forces were reported in other areas as well. The latest killings coincided with visits by a Nagaland delegation and a team of CPM-CPI MPs, both urging for peace. The MPs criticized the central and state governments for failing to maintain governance amidst the violence.
