A tragic incident occurred in Maaraanthai near Alangulam as a young priest, V. Balasubramanian, lost his life due to electrocution. The incident took place while Balasubramanian and three other priests were performing pujas ahead of the ‘kumbabhishekam’ of a local temple. After participating in the puja, they stayed overnight at Maaraanthai. The next morning, while having breakfast at a resident’s house, Balasubramanian suffered an electric shock while switching on a table fan. He immediately fainted and was rushed to a nearby hospital in Alangulam, where doctors pronounced him ‘brought dead’. The Alangulam police have registered a case in connection with this unfortunate incident. Further investigation is underway to determine the cause of the electrocution and any possible negligence.
