Congress appoints new office bearers in Rajasthan unit

In preparation for the upcoming Assembly polls, the Congress party in Rajasthan has undergone a significant rejig in its state unit. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge appointed 21 vice presidents, a treasurer, 48 general secretaries, one general secretary organization, 121 secretaries, and 25 district presidents. Some of the notable appointments include Jeetendra Singh, Naseem Akhtar Insaf, Kailash Meena, Rajkumar Jaypal, and Darshan Singh as vice presidents. Lalit Tunwal has been appointed as general secretary organization, while Sitaram Agarwal will now serve as the treasurer. The new appointments were made following a strategy meeting at the Congress headquarters, attended by top leaders such as Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, former Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot, along with several MLAs and ministers. Gehlot, who is currently recovering from injuries, participated in the meeting via video conferencing.

The organizational shake-up comes in the backdrop of a power tussle between Gehlot and Pilot, which began after the Congress formed the government in 2018. Last year, Pilot led a revolt against the Gehlot-led government and was subsequently removed from his positions as the state unit president and deputy chief minister. However, in a recent interview, Pilot mentioned that he has buried the hatchet with Gehlot on the advice of party president Mallikarjun Kharge and emphasized the importance of collective leadership. He stated that Kharge advised him to move forward and forgive past differences. It is worth noting that the Congress party has not declared a chief ministerial face for the upcoming polls, scheduled to take place later this year.

The Congress party aims to project unity and discipline within its ranks for a successful outcome in the Rajasthan assembly elections. Any deviations from party discipline will result in strict action, as mentioned in a statement released following the strategy meeting. The party leadership believes that a collective leadership approach is the way forward for the party’s success in the polls. The recent appointments in the Rajasthan unit reflect the party’s efforts to strengthen its organizational structure and streamline its functioning ahead of the elections.
