The Supreme Court Collegium, headed by Chief Justice of India D. Y. Chandrachud, on July 12 rejected the reservations expressed by three High Court judges regarding their proposed transfers to other states. The Collegium stood firm by its July 5 recommendations, stating that the transfers were in the interest of better administration of justice. One of the judges, Justice Gaurang Kanth of the Delhi High Court, requested a transfer to Madhya Pradesh or Rajasthan or any other nearby state instead of the Calcutta High Court. Similarly, Justice Dinesh Kumar Singh of the Allahabad High Court asked to be transferred to nearby states such as Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, or Rajasthan, while the Collegium had recommended his transfer to the Kerala High Court. Lastly, Justice Manoj Bajaj of the Punjab and Haryana High Court expressed his desire to stay back instead of being transferred to Allahabad. The Collegium, after thoughtful consideration, did not find any merit in the judges’ requests.
