The Delhi High Court has asked Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC) to pay the ₹1,737-crore arbitration award that IDBI Bank-led lenders won in March 2020. The award was related to a contract for developing the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal Expressway. Upholding the arbitration award, the court said that the interference and examination in such cases is limited under Section 37 of the Arbitration Act. HSIIDC had challenged the award in the high court after a three-member arbitral tribunal ruled in favour of the banks. The state corporation had borrowed money from banks for the development of the expressway and terminated the contract due to delay. The lenders then claimed damages, stating that the appointment of new concessionaires had prejudiced their interests.
