Brand Bengaluru: Residents and Apartment Associations Advocate for Regulations

How to amplify ‘Brand Bengaluru’? Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar joined nearly 300 members of resident welfare associations (RWAs) and civil society to discuss this question. One of the key concerns raised during the session was the demand for changes to the Karnataka Apartment Ownership Act (KAOA) to address issues faced by homebuyers. RWAs and apartment associations emphasized the need for legal sanctity for apartment associations and the resolution of problems related to khata issues and land rights transfer. They also called for the regulation of parking systems and the control of commercialization of residential areas in order to preserve the city’s character. Last-mile connectivity and improved mobility were also highlighted, with the demand for the enactment of a mobility bill and the execution of the suburban rail project. RWA members also expressed their concerns about the city’s digital infrastructure and the need for better regulation. Additionally, the decentralization of powers to empower ward committees for quicker project approvals was advocated by the attendees.
