Manipur Government’s Initiatives: Additional Funds for Agriculture Department and Compensation for Late M. Lucy’s Family

The Manipur government has taken two significant initiatives to support agriculture and provide compensation to the family of late M. Lucy. They have allocated an additional fund of Rs.2.5 crore to the Agriculture Department for the procurement of fertilizer. This move aims to ensure that farmers have access to adequate fertilizer for their crops.

In a tragic incident, M. Lucy was killed by unidentified miscreants. To support her family during this difficult time, the Manipur government has decided to provide an amount of Rs 10 lakh to her next of kin. This compensation demonstrates the government’s commitment to ensuring justice and support for victims of crime.

These initiatives were announced by Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh during a meeting with key officials. The Chief Minister also met with representatives of the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI), an apex body of valley-based civil society organizations, and the United Naga Council (UNC).

Both COCOMI and UNC expressed their condolences and regret for the heinous crime. They also assured their cooperation with the police in the ongoing investigation. The Chief Minister condemned the crime and promised that the culprits would be brought to justice.

In a separate meeting regarding the distribution of Urea, the Chief Minister discussed the challenges faced in the distribution of fertilizer to farmers. It was decided to allocate additional funds and closely monitor the procurement and distribution process.

Farmers who possess valid Farmer Identity Cards and necessary documents can easily procure fertilizer from authorized dealers. The Agriculture Department will ensure a smooth and transparent process for farmers to access fertilizer.

However, it is important to note that the state is currently facing tense situations with sporadic incidents of firing, arson, and unruly gatherings reported. The State Police and Central forces are conducting search operations to maintain law and order.

The Manipur government’s initiatives aim to support farmers and victims of crime. By allocating additional funds for the Agriculture Department and providing compensation to M. Lucy’s family, the government is ensuring justice and welfare for its citizens.
