The Ghosi assembly seat in Uttar Pradesh is gaining attention from across the state. With the by-election scheduled for September 5 and no BSP candidate announced yet, it is becoming a direct contest between the BJP and SP. What is interesting is that minority communities, often considered the BSP’s vote base, have started praising the BJP. Muslims in particular have expressed support for Dara Singh Chauhan, the BJP candidate for the by-election. They say that they are with Dara Singh Chauhan and have nothing to do with any political party. They believe that there has been no communal violence under the BJP rule and that free rations are being provided. Muslims have further stated that there is a lack of good governance in the SP, neither in the government nor in the party. During Dara Singh Chauhan’s nomination rally on Wednesday, a large number of Muslims participated at the Bapu Inter College grounds in Kopaganj. Some former SP leaders who joined the BJP were also present. Muslims who attended the rally praised the BJP. They said that there are no more riots under the BJP government and people are receiving free rations. They also mentioned that all government facilities are easily accessible, and gradually, the Muslim community is tilting towards the BJP. They also believe that the BJP shows more love and respect compared to other parties. The support of the Muslim community is crucial in the Ghosi by-election. If the Muslim vote and support lean towards the BJP, it could pose a significant challenge for the SP in the upcoming election. The BSP, on the other hand, is yet to announce its candidate for the by-election. It remains to be seen how the political dynamics will unfold in the coming days.
