The word ‘Swaero’ has found its way into the Compact Oxford English-English-Telugu Dictionary, delighting students and alumni of Social Welfare schools in Telangana. It is used as an aspirational identity that signifies the belief that the sky is the limit for social welfare students. The dictionary definition highlights that it is used by students and alumni to combat the stigma associated with their traditional caste identities. R. S. Praveen Kumar, the former IPS officer and politician who coined the term, expressed his joy at its inclusion in the prestigious dictionary. He never imagined that this small attempt to redefine the identity of underprivileged students would gain such recognition.
