A wind-driven wildfire in eastern Washington state has destroyed at least 185 structures, closed a major highway, and tragically claimed the life of one person. The blaze started on the west side of Medical Lake, about 15 miles west of Spokane. It quickly grew to 14.8 square miles by Saturday morning, with no containment. The structures that were burned included homes and outbuildings. Level 3 evacuations were ordered for the town as the flames spread southward. The fire crossed Interstate 90, leading to its closure. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Our thoughts are with the affected residents and the first responders working to contain the fire.
