Justice Prakash Shrivastava, the former Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court, has been appointed as the new chairperson of the National Green Tribunal (NGT). The appointment order was issued on Monday, and Justice Shrivastava, aged 62, will assume his charge at NGT this week. Justice Shiv Kumar Singh was previously appointed as the executive chairperson following the retirement of former NGT Chairman Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel in July. Justice Shrivastava began his career as a Judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court in January 2008 and became a permanent judge two years later. He served as the Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court from October 2021 until his retirement in March this year. Prior to his appointment as a judge, Justice Shrivastava practiced on tax, civil, and constitutional matters in the Supreme Court of India.
