The Karnataka government has allocated INR 15 crore towards the State Disaster Relief Fund to address the damage caused by heavy rains, floods, and landslides in Himachal Pradesh. The announcement was made through an official statement by the government. Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu expressed gratitude to his Karnataka counterpart, Siddaramaiah, for this generous gesture. The assistance is expected to provide help to the affected people during this hour of calamity. Sukhu also appealed to voluntary organizations and the general public to contribute generously towards the fund in order to maximize aid for the affected individuals.

The incessant rainfall in Himachal Pradesh has resulted in landslides, cloudbursts, and flash floods, causing significant damage across the state. Consequently, the government of Himachal Pradesh has declared the entire region as a ‘natural calamity affected area’. As per the latest information provided by the state government, the total monetary loss in the state due to the calamities has reached INR 8014.61 crore since June 24. This staggering figure reflects the extensive devastation caused by the natural disasters.

Furthermore, the state government’s report reveals that a total of 2,022 houses have been completely destroyed while 9,615 houses have been partially damaged. There have been 113 landslides recorded during the ongoing monsoon season. Tragically, the calamities have claimed the lives of 224 individuals while 117 people have lost their lives in road accidents. The government bulletin states that seventeen bodies have been recovered to date in the Summer Hill incident, and operations are ongoing to find the missing bodies.

In light of these circumstances, the Karnataka government’s contribution to the State Disaster Relief Fund is a much-needed aid towards the rehabilitation and support of the affected individuals in Himachal Pradesh. The assistance will play a crucial role in providing relief and necessary resources to those affected by the calamities. The Chief Minister’s plea for additional contributions from voluntary organizations and the general public highlights the importance of collective efforts in mitigating the effects of such disasters and rebuilding the affected communities. The generous gesture by the Karnataka government exemplifies the spirit of solidarity and cooperation between states in times of crisis.

As the situation in Himachal Pradesh remains challenging, efforts to alleviate the suffering of the affected people need to be intensified. The declaration of the state as a ‘natural calamity affected area’ serves as a call to action for the authorities and the public to come together and extend their support in every possible way. The monetary loss incurred and the loss of lives underline the urgency for comprehensive relief measures and long-term solutions to minimize the impact of similar events in the future.
