A session of both Houses of Parliament will be held from September 18-22 without Question Hour or private members’ business, according to notifications by the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha secretariats. The session, which will have five sittings, has sparked speculation as it is rumored to be the last of the current Lok Sabha, and there is talk of shifting parliamentary operations to the new Parliament building. Additionally, a high-level committee has been set up to examine and recommend simultaneous polls.

On September 18, the Thirteenth Session of the Seventeenth Lok Sabha and the Two Hundred and Sixty-First Session of the Rajya Sabha will commence. The exact agenda of the special session has not been disclosed by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi. However, arrangements are being made for a group photo of MPs, which has added fuel to the rumors.

Typically, three parliamentary sessions are held in a year, including the Budget, Monsoon, and Winter sessions. This special session has generated curiosity due to its unique nature and the possibility of it being the final session of the current Lok Sabha.

Speculation is also building on the possible relocation of parliamentary operations to the new Parliament building, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 28. The upcoming session could be an opportunity to test and shift operations to the new facility.

In addition, the government has set up a high-level committee to examine and recommend simultaneous polls. This move has fueled further speculation that the special session could be the last of the current Lok Sabha. Simultaneous polls would entail conducting elections for both the Lok Sabha and state assemblies at the same time, a significant undertaking that would require coordination and cooperation between central and state governments.

The September session will be closely watched, and members of Parliament will be eagerly awaiting the provisional calendar for the session. It remains to be seen what important issues will be discussed and debated during the session, and whether any significant decisions will be made.
