The BJP has once again demonstrated its faith in the top state leadership in the heartland states going for assembly elections. Union Home Minister Amit Shah is personally overseeing poll preparations in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, and campaigning extensively in Rajasthan. Shah has praised the state leadership of Shivraj Chouhan, Raman Singh, and Vasundhara Raje on different occasions. The BJP has put forth a collective leadership approach this time, unlike previous assembly elections. The leaders in these three states enjoy immense popularity and support, and the party is not seeking votes in their names.
During his visit to Bhopal on August 20, Shah released a report card of the BJP-led Madhya Pradesh government. He emphasized the state’s development under Chouhan’s leadership and credited him for transforming Madhya Pradesh from a BIMARU state to a developed one. However, Shah did not confirm Chouhan as the CM face, stating it is a decision to be made by the party.
Narendra Singh Tomar, the Madhya Pradesh BJP campaign committee convenor, has also expressed on multiple occasions that the party will have collective leadership and the CM’s post will be decided by the party leadership.
In the BJP’s campaign, Chouhan remains a prominent figure while other leaders are given prominent roles in party programs. Recently, Amit Shah released a chargesheet on the Congress government in Chhattisgarh led by Bhupesh Baghel and praised the leadership of Raman Singh in the state.
