The video clip is from an old NDTV interview where Lalu Yadav is seen cleaning his teeth with a Neem twig and drawing a comparison between India and Bharat. The speculation about India being renamed as Bharat started when a G20 dinner invitation referred to the President as ‘President of Bharat’ instead of India. There is also a G20 booklet titled ‘Bharat, The Mother Of Democracy’ meant for foreign delegates. Another document refers to Narendra Modi as the ‘Prime Minister of Bharat’. The government’s move has raised speculation of a name change and has become a topic of discussion in the upcoming special session of Parliament. The opposition, particularly the 28-party alliance called ‘INDIA’, has linked this possible move with their own name. They have questioned what the Centre will do if the alliance decides to rename itself as ‘Bharat’. The opposition has also accused the government of being anti-national and anti-constitutional, while BJP leaders have welcomed the use of the term ‘Bharat’, citing its presence in Article 1 of the Constitution.
