Akshay Kumar, the renowned Bollywood actor, is all set to star in his next feature film. Initially referred to as ‘The Great Indian Rescue’, the movie has now been rebranded with the title ‘Mission Raniganj’. This upcoming film also features Parineeti Chopra and revolves around the life of Jaswant Singh Gill, a mining engineer who heroically saved 64 miners trapped in a flooded quarry in West Bengal in 1989. The real-life hero, Gill, received numerous accolades for his bravery but unfortunately passed away in 2019 at the age of 80.
‘The Great Indian Rescue’, now known as ‘Mission Raniganj’, brings together the successful pair of Akshay Kumar and Parineeti Chopra, who previously shared the screen in the 2019 film ‘Kesari’. The movie is produced by Pooja Entertainment and directed by Tinu Suresh Desai, known for helming Akshay Kumar’s 2016 movie ‘Rustom’. The production is backed by Vashu Bhagnani, Deepshikha Deshmukh, Jackky Bhagnani, and Ajay Kapoor.
While Akshay Kumar works on his forthcoming project, he is currently enjoying the success of his recent release ‘OMG 2’, in which he stars alongside Pankaj Tripathi and Yami Gautam. Yami Gautam, who portrayed the character of Kamini Maheshwari in ‘OMG 2’, recently revealed that during the second lockdown, Akshay Kumar called her and expressed his excitement about a script which he considers one of the best in his career. Kumar requested Gautam to meet the director Amit Rai for the narration of the story. After hearing the narration, Gautam appreciated the film’s focus on active conversations and starting discussions rather than debates. ‘OMG 2’ sheds light on the crucial need for sex education in the Indian education system, highlighting how ‘kaam shastra’ (the science of sex) has been ingrained in Indian society for decades, while sex education remains a taboo subject.
