Gadkari: Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway to be ready by Jan 2024, cut travel time to 2 hrs; Centre aims to reduce logistics costs to 9%

The Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway, a major infrastructure project in India, is set to be completed by January 2024, according to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari. This would greatly benefit commuters and enhance connectivity between the two major cities. Currently, the travel time between Bengaluru and Chennai is around 5-6 hours by road. The new expressway aims to reduce this time to just 2 hours, making it faster and more convenient for people to travel between the two cities.

The Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway will be a 262-kilometer long, 4-lane access-controlled highway. It will pass through major towns and cities such as Hoskote, Malur, Bangarapet, Kolar, and Ranipet, providing better connectivity and access to these areas. The project is expected to attract investments and promote economic development in the region.

In addition to reducing travel time, the government is also focused on reducing logistics costs. Currently, logistics costs in India account for around 14-18% of GDP, which is quite high compared to global standards. Nitin Gadkari aims to bring down these costs to around 9% in order to boost trade and economic growth. By improving infrastructure and ensuring smoother transportation, the government aims to make India a more competitive and attractive destination for businesses.

The Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway is just one among several major infrastructure projects that the government is undertaking as part of its ambitious plan to upgrade and modernize the country’s transportation network. These projects not only help in reducing travel time and logistics costs but also create employment opportunities and contribute to the overall development of the respective regions.

The completion of the Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway by January 2024 will be a significant milestone in India’s infrastructure development journey. It will not only enhance connectivity but also have a positive impact on the economy by boosting trade, attracting investments, and promoting regional growth. The government’s commitment to improving infrastructure and reducing logistics costs is a positive step towards making India a globally competitive and economically vibrant nation.
