The Congress has accused the Indian government of covering up or demolishing slum areas and mistreating stray animals ahead of the G20 Summit. Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the Congress, stated that there is no need to hide India’s reality from the international guests attending the summit. The opposition party shared a video on social media, showing slum areas being covered with green sheets before the summit began. The Congress has also shared videos depicting cruelty towards stray animals. They accused the government of hiding poor people and animals. In response, Jairam Ramesh, the Congress general secretary, criticized the government’s handling of the matter. He described the G20 Summit as a gathering aimed at dealing with global problems, but accused the government of using it to burnish the Prime Minister’s image. The Congress shared videos of cruelty towards stray dogs and animals, along with a video of a slum resident expressing their frustration. They claimed that the government considers them insects and asked if they are not humans. The opposition party also highlighted the mistreatment of street dogs, including dragging them by their necks, beating them with sticks, and denying them food and water. They emphasized the need to raise voices against such acts and demand justice for the voiceless victims. The Congress has called for attention to these issues and demanded accountability from the government.
