Former Indian cricket captain and coach, Anil Kumble, also faced the inconvenience caused by the ongoing day-long bandh organized by private transporters in Bengaluru. He took a BMTC bus ride from the airport and shared a photo on his Twitter account with the caption, “BMTC trip back home today from the airport.” The bandh has brought transportation services in the city to a standstill, affecting private vehicles such as autos, taxis, maxi cabs, goods vehicles, and corporate buses. The Federation of the Karnataka State Private Transport Associations has initiated the bandh to press for various demands. The police have issued stern warnings against any disruptive activities during this period. Passengers traveling to the Bengaluru Airport have been advised by the airport authority to make alternative arrangements to ensure they reach the airport on time. The bandh has caused major disruption in the city’s transportation services, and the resolution of the demands remains to be seen. The Federation of Karnataka State Private Transport groups, comprised of 32 private transport groups, has declared the ‘bandh’ for a full day. Most private transportation services are expected to be unavailable during this time. Private maxi cabs are an important mode of transportation for many youngsters, leading some schools to declare a holiday on Monday to avoid disturbances for students. Passengers traveling to the airport may need to find alternative modes of transportation. The federation has called for a ban on bike taxis and for the government to expand the Shakti scheme, which provides free bus rides to women on state-run buses, to include private buses. Private transporters argue that the Shakti scheme has harmed them, and the state government has not addressed their concerns despite conversations. The situation continues to unfold as the city deals with the effects of the bandh on its transportation services.
