In a poignant display of unwavering dedication and in adherence to the illustrious traditions of the Indian Army, a valiant six-year-old female Labrador made the ultimate sacrifice while fulfilling her duties. This noble canine, named Kent, laid down her life protecting her handler during an encounter in the Rajouri region of Jammu and Kashmir on a fateful Tuesday.
Kent, a distinguished member of the 21 Army Dog Unit, was fearlessly leading a contingent of soldiers in pursuit of fleeing terrorists when they found themselves engulfed in a barrage of hostile gunfire. Tragically, Kent succumbed to her injuries on the spot, leaving an indelible mark of valor and sacrifice.
Kent was at the forefront of ‘Operation Sujaligala’, the Public Relations Officer, Indian Army, Jammu informed through a statement.
Additional Director General of Police, Mukesh Singh, said one terrorist and an army jawan were killed in the encounter that broke out in the Narllah area of the Rajouri district in the Jammu region.
Three more jawans, including a Special Police Officer (SPO), were also injured in the exchange of fire.
Last week, a terrorist was killed in a joint operation conducted by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police in the Reasi district.
