The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has instructed its health department officials to launch a special drive from September to December to check the quality of sweets and ‘mawa’ (solidified milk) used for making them. This step has been taken to prevent incidents of food poisoning due to adulteration. Health officers and sanitary inspectors will visit sweet shops and cold storages to inspect the quality of sweets and ‘mawa’. The civic body has urged establishments selling sweets and milk-based products to take special care and has advised people to report any changes in color or smell of these items to the BMC.
