In 2016, Soorya Krishnamoorthy, an art connoisseur and cultural activist, experimented with a new form of theatre called Chayakkadakathakal (Tea shop stories) which consisted of six plays set in a tea shop. The plays were a huge success and received recognition beyond expectations. Now, Krishnamoorthy is directing six short films based on the plays, with the support of Doordarshan. The films are set in an imaginary village called Chamundipuram and revolve around the characters and narrative style of the original plays. The titles of the stories are ‘Bheeman Ravunni Nair’, ‘Theetta Rappayi’, ‘Amma Thankamma’, ‘Kalathil Padmini Makal Ammu’, ‘Thorappan Gonsalvaz’, and ‘Anamika’. Shooting for the films is currently ongoing and they are expected to be telecast as 13 episodes next month. The films will feature the same set of actors who performed in the plays, including Neyyattinkara Krishnan Nair, Arun Nath, Sreekumar Mullassery, Devan Nellimoodu, Noble Norbert, and Rachana Narayankutty.
