Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur announced on Saturday that he will no longer be attending the Asian Games in China after the country denied visas to three Wushu players from Arunachal Pradesh. Thakur emphasized that Arunachal Pradesh is an integral part of India and his decision to cancel the visit was in protest against China’s actions. The Ministry of External Affairs, through spokesperson Arindam Bagchi, stated that India reserves the right to protect its interests and strongly opposes the differential treatment of Indian citizens based on their domicile or ethnicity. Bagchi reaffirmed that Arunachal Pradesh will always remain an integral and inalienable part of India. The three Indian Wushu players, Nyeman Wangsu, Onilu Tega, and Mepung Lamgu, were denied entry to China to compete in the Hangzhou Asian Games. They were supposed to participate in individual martial arts events.
