The Kuki Inpi Manipur, representing the Kuki tribes, has accused the Meitei community in Manipur of orchestrating the ceaseless violence in the state as part of their goal of establishing an independent country. The claims made by the Kuki Inpi Manipur are supported by the recent arrest of Moirangthem Anand Singh by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). Singh, who has affiliations with banned militant outfits, is believed to be connected to a transnational conspiracy involving leaders based in Myanmar.
According to the Manipur Police, Singh has a history of arrests dating back to his time with the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and later with the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) Noyon group. The NIA’s investigation has revealed that insurgent groups and proscribed terrorist organizations are recruiting Over Ground Workers (OGWs), cadres, and sympathizers to carry out attacks on security forces and opposing ethnic groups in Manipur.
The Kuki Inpi Manipur’s Information and Publicity Secretary, Janghaolun Haokip, claims that Singh’s arrest has exposed the well-established conspiracy of the banned Meitei militant outfits to secede from India. Haokip asserts that these outfits are working in collusion with the Manipur state government as well as radicalized Meiteis to carry out ethnic cleansing and brutal attacks against the Kuki-Zo ethnic minority.
The Kuki Inpi Manipur further accuses the state government of facilitating the influx of these militant outfits into the Imphal valley, thus terrorizing the Kuki-Zo community. They also allege that Meitei civil society organizations are shielding these outfits from conviction and prosecution, allowing them to carry out well-orchestrated attacks against the Kuki-Zo community. In response to these threats, the Kuki-Zo people are demanding a separate administration under the constitution and expedited talks with the Suspension of Operations (SoO) groups for a permanent political solution.
The ongoing violence and ethnic unrest in Manipur pose a significant challenge to national security and have created an existential crisis for the Kuki-Zo people. The allegations made by the Kuki Inpi Manipur raise serious concerns about the collusion between Meitei groups, the state government, and the security forces, necessitating further investigation and action to address the issues at hand.
