The Central government has approved over 10,000 claims by micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) under the Vivad se Vishwas – I scheme, allocating approximately ₹256 crore to businesses caught in disputes. This scheme, introduced in the Budget, aims to offer assistance to MSMEs affected by the COVID-19 crisis. Between April and July this year, claims for relief were accepted. The programme reimbursed 95% of deducted performance and bid security, as well as liquidated damages. Additionally, relief was administered to MSMEs banned due to defaults in contract execution. In a statement, the Finance Ministry revealed that besides granting funds to more than 10,000 businesses, the scheme has also facilitated the flow of bank credit by freeing up guarantees. According to the statement, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas awarded the highest relief of ₹116.47 crore, resolving 2,807 claims accepted by agencies under its administrative control. The Railways Ministry settled slightly over 2,000 claims worth ₹79 crore, followed by the Defence Ministry which accepted 424 claims worth ₹23.45 crore.
