French actor Gerard Depardieu’s art collection was sold for approximately four million euros at an auction in Paris. The auction, conducted by Ader, saw over 95% of the 250-plus artworks being sold. One of the highlights of the sale was a statue by Auguste Rodin, a character that Depardieu had portrayed in a film in 1988. However, Depardieu decided at the last minute to retain a lifesize statue by Germaine Richier that bore resemblance to the actor. The auction featured works by renowned artists such as Alexander Calder, Ossip Zadkine, Pablo Picasso, and David Hockney, attracting thousands of visitors over three days at the Hotel Drouot in Paris.

Auctioneer David Nordmann remarked on the significance of Depardieu’s collection, which he had assembled over more than 40 years, calling it a great surprise. Depardieu had decided to sell a portion of his vast art collection to simplify his holdings.

When asked about other items that the auctioneers would want to sell from Depardieu’s collection, one of them mentioned the actor’s wine cellar, jokingly expressing their interest in it.
