A tragic incident occurred in Dharmapuram village near Kaniyambadi town in Vellore, where a 50-year-old woman and her 6-year-old daughter drowned in an abandoned quarry. The woman, identified as J. Bhuvaneshwari, worked as a wage labourer, while her daughter, J. Reshma, was a Class I student at the local Government Primary School. The incident took place at around 11 a.m. when Bhuvaneshwari went to the quarry with her daughter to wash clothes. While they were playing near the bund of the quarry, Reshma accidentally slipped into the waters. In a desperate attempt to save her daughter, Bhuvaneshwari also jumped into the water, but unfortunately, both of them drowned. The bodies were discovered around 1 p.m. by dairy farmers who visited the quarry. They immediately informed the Vellore taluk police, who arrived at the scene and sent the bodies to the Government Medical College Hospital in Vellore for post-mortem. A case has been registered, and the police investigation is ongoing.
