Hyundai Motor India, the country’s second largest carmaker, announced that its total wholesales in September reached a record high of 71,641 units, reflecting a 13% year-on-year increase. This surge in sales was driven by strong demand in the domestic market, with a 9% growth in domestic sales compared to the same period last year. Additionally, Hyundai Motor India reported a 29% increase in exports, with 17,400 units shipped in September. The company’s COO, Tarun Garg, attributed the sales growth to the ongoing festive season and the increasing popularity of their SUV portfolio. Garg also revealed that SUVs now account for more than 65% of the company’s domestic sales, further emphasizing the strong demand for this vehicle segment. The recently launched micro SUV, Exter, has garnered over 80,000 bookings, adding to the success of Hyundai Motor India’s SUV lineup. Garg highlighted that despite intense competition in the market, the Creta continues to lead in the mid-sized SUV segment. He expressed optimism regarding the company’s sales performance for the rest of the year and projected a 9% year-on-year sales growth compared to the previous year. Hyundai’s order backlog currently stands at 1.15 lakh units, indicating a positive outlook for the coming months.
