Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal visited the Ghazipur landfill on Friday and expressed displeasure at the slow pace of work in clearing the garbage mound. Only 5.25 lakh tonnes of waste have been cleared out of the 15 lakh tonnes target announced by the AAP. The BJP accused Kejriwal of trying to evade responsibility. Kejriwal suggested hiring two more agencies to expedite the process. The Bhalswa landfill work is progressing ahead of schedule. The Supreme Court’s pending case has delayed the formation of the Standing Committee, which is hindering the hiring of more agencies. Ghazipur landfill is just eight meters short of the iconic Qutub Minar. The MCD has taken multiple measures to reduce the landfill’s height, including waste segregation and discouraging single-use plastic.
