Rush for Raising Funds via QIPs Hints at Pickup in Private Capex Cycle

An increasing number of listed companies in India are turning to the market to raise fresh capital through qualified institutional placements (QIPs), a trend that indicates the rejuvenation of the private capex cycle. In the first half of FY24, 20 companies raised a total of ₹18,500 crore through QIPs, and another dozen have plans to raise up to ₹25,000 crore through this route. The surge in fundraising activity is attributed to government initiatives aimed at revitalizing the economy and an upswing in consumer demand. Most of the QIP funds will be used for new projects, modernization, infrastructure development, and the purchase of capital goods.
