India’s heptathlon athlete Swapna Barman has apologized after alleging that she lost the Asian Games bronze medal in her event to a transgender athlete. Barman had posted the allegations on a social media platform but later deleted them. In her apology, she stated that her previous tweet was an emotional reaction to her loss and expressed her regret for her actions. Barman won the gold medal in the heptathlon event in 2018 but finished fourth in this year’s race. The Athletics Federation of India is expected to address the issue after the completion of the Games.
