Global Carbon Emissions Expected to Hit New Record in 2023: Researchers
    Uncategorized

Global emissions of planet-heating carbon dioxide are expected to rise around one percent to reach a new all-time high in 2023, the climate scientist behind the preliminary research said. These rising emissions make it increasingly challenging to limit global warming and meet the targets set in the Paris Agreement. The Paris Agreement aims to keep global warming well below 2 degrees Celsius and pursue efforts to limit the temperature increase to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels. To achieve this, carbon pollution must be reduced by nearly 50% by the end of this decade. However, instead of falling, current expectations suggest that emissions will increase between 0.5% and 1.5% this year. These findings highlight the urgent need for aggressive action to reduce emissions and transition away from fossil fuels.
