These rising emissions make it increasingly challenging to limit global warming and meet the targets set in the Paris Agreement. The Paris Agreement aims to keep global warming well below 2 degrees Celsius and pursue efforts to limit the temperature increase to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels. To achieve this, carbon pollution must be reduced by nearly 50% by the end of this decade. However, instead of falling, current expectations suggest that emissions will increase between 0.5% and 1.5% this year. These findings highlight the urgent need for aggressive action to reduce emissions and transition away from fossil fuels.
