Hundreds of standing stones, some 8m tall, stand sentinel in Nartiang, Meghalaya, with their origin shrouded in fantastical folklore. Nartiang is home to the densest and largest collection of monoliths in the region. These monoliths, carved from single blocks of granite, hold great significance in local society. Legends and stories passed down through generations connect these ancient structures to giants and powerful chiefs. Despite their mysterious origin, the monoliths continue to captivate visitors and evoke a sense of wonder and awe. Detailed archaeological work is yet to uncover the exact purpose and history of these stoic stone giants.
